Cranial Facial Release

Cranial Facial Release (CFR) in The Villages, Florida. If you’re seeking relief from various cranial and facial issues and want to discover the potential of natural harmony, you’ve come to the right place.

Understanding Cranial Facial Release:

Cranial Facial Release is a gentle, non-invasive procedure performed by trained Chiropractors to correct imbalances within the bones of the skull and face. By applying gentle pressure to specific areas, CFR aims to improve the structural alignment of the cranial bones, which can lead to a range of physical and emotional benefits.

Understanding The Anatomy of The Head

To understand the mechanism of action of the cranial release technique, we first need to underwent how your skull bones perform in normal circumstances. Unlike the common beliefs, the 22 separate skull bones are not entirely and tightly fixated in place. In fact, every time you breathe, the bones move in their own directions to pump cerebrospinal fluid or CSF (brain fluid) through the different brain structures i.e., the cerebellum, the pituitary gland, the spinal cord, etc. This keeps the brain structure well nourished and cushioned.

What Are Cranial Fixations And How Common Are They?

As the name indicates, a crania fixation arises when multiple bones of the skull get fixed in one place and do not move properly. The improper movements of the skull bones lead to a diminished flow of the cerebrospinal fluid and, consequently, malnourishment of the structures.  Another consequence of this stagnation is poor lymphatic drainage, leading to the piling up of toxic materials in the brain.

The major cause of cranial fixations is trauma to the head. Other contributors to cranial fixations include birthing trauma (excessive force), whiplash injuries, face/head bumps, and drug abuse. Fixations are way more common than you think and more of a medical issue than considered.

Consequences Of Cranial Fixations

The most pivotal structures housed by the craniofacial bones are the sphenoid bone and the pituitary gland atop. The pituitary gland is considered the “master gland” of the body. Reduced flow of CSF to the sphenoid bone and the pituitary gland leads to consequences. Patients suffering from the following complications due to cranial fixations:

  • Nervous System Complications: Due to pressure of the skull bones on the brain and the spinal cord.
  • Endocrine System Complications: Due to improper nutrition of the pituitary gland.

Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH)

Another consequence of reduced movement and rigidity of the cranial bones is Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). It is characterized by a build-up of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, and there is a blockage of flow to the spinal cord. As a result, the brain ventricles enlarge, putting a lot of pressure on the brain. Symptoms include walking problems, loss of bladder control, and memory issues (dementia). Due to merging symptoms with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, NPH often goes undiagnosed.

The good news is that normal pressure hydrocephalus can be easily fixed with the Cranial Facial Release technique. Patients under CRF claim that the treatment removes their feeling of “being stuck.”

How Does Cranial Facial Release Technique Help?

This very technique works by unlocking the cranial fixations while inducing normal movement of the head and face bones at the same time. The main target of this therapy is the sphenoid bone. An inflated balloon is inserted into the nose, where it presses against the bones of the nasal passages (breathing passages). This step adjusts the sutures of the skull and face.

The introduction of the balloon pressure releases the impingement and the pressure from the cranial vault. Optimal respiratory function is restored, and cerebrospinal flow is returned to normal. The CSF flow restoration allows effective nutrition of brain structures and timely flushing of waste products.

What Can I Expect During The Procedure?

The Cranial facial release is a quick and pain-free procedure. You will only feel a lot of pressure in the nose, but only momentarily (for a few seconds). Many people relate the pressure in the nose with the feeling of jumping into a swimming pool. The whole process lasts a few seconds.

The chiropractor uses a medical balloon fixed to a blood pressure bulb for this procedure. The balloon is placed into one nostril (nasal turbinates i.e., bones along the side wall of the nostril) after sufficient lubrication.

Once inside, you will be asked to take a deep breath and hold it. The opposite nostril is simultaneously squeezed (gently) to prevent air escape. Now, the doctor inflates the balloon using the bulb. The inflation lasts for a few seconds only before being deflated. The procedure is repeated on the other nostril, too.

The inflation of the balloon pushes the bony structures of the nose, allowing them to move naturally. You will start noticing the results after a few sessions of the technique (5 sessions mostly).
