Wobble Disc Exercises for Improving Pelvic Mobility and Preventing Back Pain

Low back pain is a common problem that affects your pelvic mobility. Studies have shown that up to 60-80% of people are affected by back pain throughout their lifetime. Wobble disc exercises are highly effective to improve pelvic mobility and are simple to perform at home.

What is a wobble disc?

A wobble disc or balance disc is often used for balancing, athletic training, coordinating, stretching exercises, and preventing falls. The wobble disc is an air-filled cushion that has a circular shape with an uneven base and can be used for balance. Mainly, it can prepare people to avoid falling and prevent common sports injuries including ankle and knee injuries. Over the past few years, it has become popular among many athletes such as hockey players, footballers, and snowboarders. A Wobble disc can prefer as a seat cushion that helps in an active sitting. Additionally, the Wobble disc is used in several lower limb rehabilitation programs to improve balance and prevent people from falling.

Factors affecting the exercise:

Some factors may significantly affect the degree of difficulty. It includes:

  1. The surface area of the board.
  2. The size of the wobble board is another factor. If the wobble board has a larger size, it will make the exercise easier.
  3. Tilt angle also affects the exercise, for instance, the angle formed when one edge of the wobble board touches the ground.

Benefits of Wobble disc:

  • A wobble disc is an inexpensive, portable object that can be effective for performing exercises at home.
  • During a balance disc exercise, your limb muscles and core muscles will have to work harder as compared to when you perform the same exercise on a stable surface.
  • Wobble disc is also recommended for rehabilitation exercises to treat symptoms of arthritis, ankle sprain, and after-knee surgery. It helps to regain the sense of movement and position called proprioception.
  • It helps to improve posture and strengthen your hips, knees, and ankle.

Exercises using wobble disc exercises:

There are several exercises using a wobble disc.

Balance exercise

Stand on one foot on the wobble disc for 30 seconds, then repeat the exercise on the other foot. Perform balance exercise for 60 seconds. If you want to add a challenge, close your eyes while doing this exercise.

Pushups with wobble disc:

Place your both hands on the wobble disc (or you can use two separate discs). Now perform pushups while placing your hands on the wobble disc. Try to perform three sets of 8 pushups.

Using a wobble disc as a seat cushion

  1. Sit on a balance disc and create the low back curve and then take it away. Repeat this exercise 10 times.
  2. Sit on the balance disc and lean your right pelvis and left shoulder down. Rotating side to side and alternating sides.
  3. Sit on a balance disc. Start doing clockwise motion with the pelvis 10 times. Repeat with counterclockwise motion 10 times.

Posterior Pelvic Tilt

Often, the posterior pelvic tilt and body posture imbalance takes place due to a lack of movements. For that, stretching your muscles of legs can be helpful to improve posture.

What is pelvic tilt?

The imbalance of muscles can lead to movement dysfunction. A pelvic tilt occurs when your pelvic muscle leans too much toward one side. It is a postural abnormality that develops when your pelvic muscles stay in one position for a long time. For instance, sitting on an uncomfortable chair for several hours can lead to the development of pelvic tilt.

In several pelvic tilt cases, the hip extensor and flexor muscles are involved. As these muscles are attached to the pelvic region, you may experience other pelvic area muscles tightening. The pelvic region muscles involved are rectus femoris, psoas major, and quadratus lumborum. These muscles are responsible for good posture and bad posture.

What are the types of pelvic tilt problems?

There are three types of pelvic tilt;

  1. Lateral pelvic tilt
  2. Anterior pelvic tilt
  3. Posterior pelvic tilt

Let’s discuss posterior pelvic tilt in detail.

Posterior pelvic tilt:

Posterior pelvic tilt occurs when your glutes tuck inwards direction and the upper body rounds back. The main reason is lack of movement which leads to weak leg muscles, improper balance, and poor posture. The posterior pelvic tilt applies excess stress on your lower back which can eventually lead to back pain and sciatica. Sciatica refers to the pain that can run down from you to the thigh. The main contributor to posterior pelvic tilt is the thigh hamstring muscles.

Common causes of posterior pelvic tilt:

The common cause of posterior pelvic tilt is the tight hamstring and glute muscles pulling the bottom pelvis below while the front of the pelvis tilts upward. Also, the tight abdominal muscle pulls the pelvis region upward direction which causes posterior pelvic tilt issues.

What symptoms do I experience If I have posterior pelvic tilt?

When you excessively backward tilt your pelvis, it can negatively affect your posture and lead to pain. The common symptoms of posterior pelvic tilt include:

  • Back pain, weakness
  • Knee pain
  • Hip pain
  • The appearance of tucked glutes
  • Tightness of hamstring muscles

Exercises for posterior pelvic tilt

It’s possible to correct your posterior pelvic tilt issue with the exercises. Here are some exercises that help you to get rid of symptoms of posterior pelvic tilt issues.

  1. Static hamstring stretch
  2. Superman Stretch
  3. Cobra stretch
  4. Foam roll

1.    Static hamstring stretch:

In this exercise, you need to sit on the hard chair and stretch out one leg. Now, bend from the hip until you feel the stretch. Keep your back straightened during a static hamstring stretch. Hold for up to 30 seconds and relax yourself. Now switch the exercise to the other leg.

2.    Superman:

For the Superman exercise, you can lie on the floor on your stomach side and stretch your both arms. Now lift the chest off the floor and hold the position for up to 30 seconds. Repeat the process for 3 sets.

3.    Cobra:

During the Cobra stretch, start with the belly facing down to the floor. Now, angle your legs with the thighs and breathe to the next movement. Then, gently bend your elbow and push yourself upward until you feel an extension on the back. Take a deep breath in and out during the pose.

4.    Foam roll:

The foam roll is also referred to as self-myofascial release. The foam roll is similar to massage therapy which helps to relieve the tension in several parts of the body. For that, lay on one side and put the foam roll in the calves area. Now slowly roll it to your calves and focus on the target point. The target point is the area where you experience extra tension. Roll over this for up to 30 seconds. Now switch the leg and repeat the process. You can also use foam roll to perform the exercise on your thighs.

Best Posture Exercises

Having a good posture is more important than looking good. Good posture helps to provide flexibility, strength, and balance to your body. It can lead to a reduction in body pain and keep you energetic throughout the day. If you have a proper posture, it helps to reduce muscle stress and minimize the risk of getting injured.

A good posture helps enhance confidence and greatly affects your health. It provides several long-term benefits such as:

  • Minimize the back pain
  • Reduce the muscle stress
  • Improves blood circulation, respiratory, and digestion
  • Reduce the risk of injuries
Best Posture Exercises

4 Best Posture Exercises that can improve your posture:

  1. Doorway Stretch
  2. Face pulls (45-degree pull-downs)
  3. Kettlebell swings
  4. Scapula retraction

1. Doorway Stretch:

In the doorway stretch exercise, you need to stand in an open doorway. Now, raise your both arm in an upward direction and bent at 90 degrees while your palm is in the forward direction. Slowly step forward with your one foot until you feel a stretch on your shoulders and chest. At this point, stand upright and hold for 30 seconds. Then, step back and relax. Repeat this exercise at least 3 times.

2. Face pulls (45-degree pull-downs):

Face pull especially targets the posterior deltoid muscles that help to reduce shoulder pain and improve poor posture. For this exercise, you need a cable pulley machine to bring the weight straight toward your forehead.

Grasp the handles with both hands and step back until both your arms are completely extended. Now, pull the handles straight towards your forehead while keeping your palms facing in and engage the rear deltoid muscles. Then, you have to reverse the movement and slowly extend the arms while not allowing your shoulders to roll forward. During this exercise, you need to maintain a good posture.

3. Kettlebell swings:

For Kettlebell swings, you should stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a kettlebell with both hands. On an inhale, push your hips back and slightly bend the knees and bring the kettlebell between your legs.

On an exhale, squeeze your glutes and push your hips forward which helps your body to lift in the standing position. Now, allow your arms to swing the kettlebell as far as it goes. Then, again inhale and lower the kettlebell between your legs by bending your knees and pushing your hips back. It is essential to perform 2 to 3 sets of 10-10 reps of kettlebell swings.

4. Scapula retraction:

You should sit on a chair with your shoulders back and down. Place your hands on your hips and bring your shoulders forward while rounding your upper back. Then, bring your shoulder back and down while pulling your elbows back and contracting your shoulder blades together. Just make sure that you keep your shoulder down during this exercise.

In conclusion, having a good posture is crucial for our overall health and well-being. Incorporating these best posture exercises into your daily routine can help improve your posture, reduce muscle stress, and minimize the risk of injuries.

NFL and Chiropractic – The Villages

Did you know that all 32 teams in the National Football League provide all their player’s chiropractic healthcare as part of their medical team for managing and preventing injuries?

If all 32 NFL teams and owners trust their athletes in the hands of chiropractors and elite athletes trust chiropractors with their entire career, how powerful must chiropractic care be?

Tom Brady: “Chiropractic just makes you feel so much better. When I walk out of the clinic, I feel like I’m about three inches taller and everything’s in place. And as long as I see the chiropractor, I feel like I’m one step ahead of the game.”

Reggie Bush: ”I look at chiropractic care as important to keeping me healthy and at the top of my game.”

Jerry Rice: “I believe in chiropractic, and I know it works. You probably know about my long and successful career in football. I’m flattered by the testimonials to my durability. Football is a very rough and vigorous sport. Chiropractic was the key to keeping me in the game.”

Terrell Owens: “Those are the guys that put me on the field when I didn’t think I had a chance to be on the field. These are professionals, and God put them in my life for a reason.”

Chiropractic care can help you play longer and harder and stay in the game. The power of chiropractic has been proven through decades of athletic performance. Chiropractic care works with the body’s natural ability to heal resulting in feeling better but more importantly performing at your best.

If you take a look at the benefits professional football players receive from chiropractic care, then you’ll find these same benefits can have a positive impact on non-football players too (you know, the regular folk like us). Some of the benefits include:

Increase Mobility

  • In sports medicine, chiropractic adjustments help to minimize pain from movement and increase flexibility. This is obviously important for professional athletes, but it should be important to everyone else, too. Increased mobility through flexibility can help keep you from getting injured from something silly, such as walking down the stairs or picking up your teacup poodle.

Ease General Pain

  • In football, hulking beasts of men smash into each other – on purpose. This can lead to a lot of soreness, aches, and pains. Even though you may not spend a great deal of time crashing into other people on purpose, regular exercise can cause the same problem. Chiropractic care can help to keep your body working as it should in order to perform better and ease aches and pains along the way!

Prevent Injuries

  • Studies have found a direct link between regular chiropractic care in athletes and fewer sports-related injuries. The above-mentioned increase in flexibility and mobility plays a big role in injury prevention for athletes as well as weekend warriors. This is because it helps to keep the body strong, and a strong body is a body that is more injury resistant.

Better Endurance and Strength

  • It’s easy to see why professional athletes benefit from better strength and endurance, but it’s good for normal people too. I mean, you never know when the zombie apocalypse might happen and in that case, you’ll need all the endurance you can get. Zombies aside, increased endurance and strength are really helpful in increasing your ever-important mobility. As you age, mobility will help to keep you strong and less prone to accidents and injuries that can have a huge impact on your health.

At Legacy Clinic of Chiropractic, our team https://legacyclinicofchiropractic.com/our-team goes beyond conventional medicine by offering services and techniques which can relieve symptoms while at the same time addressing and resolving the underlying causes of your particular dysfunction.

If you have been experiencing low back pain and/or other related spinal symptoms such as neck pain, headaches, migraines, mid back pain, rib pain, carpal tunnel, sciatica, disc herniations or protrusions, neuropathy, pain/numbness/burning/weakness in your arms, hands, legs or feet.

The Importance Of Stimulating Your Adrenal Glands With Chiropractic!!

In honor of September being the birth month of Chiropractic, I wanted to take a moment and focus on one vertebra and that you should always have adjusted in order to stimulate your immune system.
Your ninth thoracic vertebrae (T9) are the most important vertebrae I can stimulate if a patient walks in my door with a decreased immune system or is feeling under the weather.

Symptoms of a decreased immune system can include brain fog, craving sweets or salty snacks, having a decreased sex drive, depression, difficulty getting over an illness, fatigue for no reason, inability to get restful sleep, inability to think clearly, insomnia, low energy especially in the morning, muscle and bone loss, muscular weakness and poor memory. All of these symptoms listed can be the result of a decreased immune system. One way to boost the immune system neurologically is to directly stimulate the adrenal glands in the body. Adrenal glands help your body deal with stress.

When adrenal glands are under chronic or excessive stress in the body they can fatigue which directly decreases the immune system. Adrenal fatigue is very common in society today and one of the most under diagnosed and under-treated clinical conditions. By getting a chiropractic adjustment on T9 we are able to directly stimulate the adrenal glands and improve immune system function in the body.
So if you are feeling tired, low on energy, and run down it is time to visit the Doctors of Legacy Clinic to get your ninth thoracic vertebrae adjusted in order to stimulate your adrenal glands and instantly boost your immune system.
