What is Iliotibial or IT Band Syndrome

The Iliotibial Band (IT Band for short) is a very long, thick band of fascia that runs from the hip down to the knee. This is the primary cause of knee pain for runners but can also affect just about anyone else who overuses it. Golfers may find pain during their swings and even going for a walk could cause pain.

IT Band Syndrome is caused by the ligament tightening so much that it rubs against the thighbone. The main symptoms are pain between the hip and knee and worsening with activity.

ITBS generally takes months to heal on its own and possibly longer depending on the strain and continued use. Steroid shots have been used in the past to reduce inflammation, but luckily places like Legacy Clinic have started using natural elements to achieve the same effect without the harm of overusing steroids.

Adjustments and massage therapy can also be very beneficial in speeding the recovery time and getting you back to the daily activities that this may have prevented you from doing.

For more information or if you think you might have ITBS, contact us today at:

Reasons To Consider Dry Needling

Reasons To Consider Dry Needling

Dry Needling also known as Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling, uses the same small needles used in acupuncture. These needles are inserted into the muscle to directly affect trigger points. Trigger points are tight knots of muscle that can refer pain throughout the body. A lot of patients have had this technique suggested to them either by friends who have had it done or by their physical therapists or MD’s. We put together a few reasons on why you should consider this option and what it can do for you.

Relaxing Tight Muscles

Dry needling can help to reset your knotted up muscle back to its resting length. Relaxing knotted up muscle tissue is very similar to getting a massage.

Improving Blood Flow

When your muscles are “tight” or “knotted”, they can decrease blood flow. Thereby, releasing the tension in your muscles will help to increase your blood flow leading to an overall healthier you also.

Decreasing Pain and Releasing Neurotransmitters

This technique releases differnet opiate peptides. These neurotransmitters prevent pain signals to the brain and spinal cord which decreases your pain.

Treating Chronic Pain

No one should have to live with chronic pain. Dry needling can treat acute or chronic pain. It can help with a range of different things such as: Plantar fasciitis, shoulder pain, back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica and more.

Nervous system – Chiropractor in villages Florida

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

HAVE YOU HAD YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM

CHECKED LATELY?

Why are people flocking to Legacy Clinic 1 time per month?

Because the human body possesses a natural ability to heal itself, and this ability depends on a healthy nervous system.
Safe, specific spinal correction allows your body to heal faster and can even prevent disease. Your spine provides a basic
structure for the muscles and other parts of your body, performing several pivotal functions like support, protection and
flexibility. Nerves branching off the spinal cord also communicate with specific organs and regions of your body. For these
reasons alone, alignment of your spine is key. When your spine is healthy, your body functions as it was designed. However,
when misaligned or damaged, the life-giving power of your nervous system is interrupted, causing painful symptoms and
illness to pop up.

“What connects the mind to the body is the nervous system, which medical textbooks refer to as the master control system.
You will be amazed at how the spine and the nervous sytem are interrelated and connected to every aspect of our
expression of health and wellness.”

Facet Syndrome in the Villages Florida

Facet Syndrome in the Villages Florida

One of the most common causes of lower back pain is lumbar facet syndrome. A pair of facet joints extend out from each vertebra along the back of the spinal column (the side that faces out), which connect to the corresponding vertebrae above and below, allowing for movement in the spine. Like any other joints, they are subject to injury and conditions such as arthritis or repetitive motion disorder. The more activity someone does that JAMS the Vertebral discs than
the greater chances of facet syndrome. Your Lumbar spine is structured with a lordotic curve. That curve is formed to distribute the weight evenly on each vertebra. When you lose the lordotic curve from sitting or poor posture then your weight on your joints is not evenly distributed and creates too much force on your Lumbar facet joints. The lumbar facet joint can create pain stemming from a variety of causes. One of the most common causes is simply aging. As we get older, the cartilage in our joints wears down and the synovial fluid lessens, reducing the cushioning the cartilage provides, and allowing the bones of
the joint to rub together. Smokers are at greater risk for lumbar facet syndrome, as it has been proven that smoking leads to greater cartilage loss. Injury to the lumbar facet joints caused by trauma or overextension (a situation particularly common among athletes) can also lead to this syndrome.

The Spinal Facet Joint

Some of the symptoms of Facet Joint Syndrome include:
1.) Severe spinal pain, particularly when engaged in movement.
2.) Stiffness and limited motion ability in the area of the back.
3.) Pain becomes worse upon bending backward or straightening the back.
4.) When the lumbar nerve is affected, sciatica symptoms may occur.
5.) An onset of Pinched Nerve symptoms may arise, particularly in the area of the cervical spine.

Suffering from Facet Joint Syndrome

Individuals suffering from facet syndrome may feel worse in the morning, due to increased inflammation and stiffness that occurs during a resting period. They tend to have stiffness and usually will feel somewhat better after they have been moving around. As the day progresses they tend to be ok as long as they keep moving. However, for those having to work seated all day or work from a computer, they may find they are at a greater risk of experiencing pain
throughout the day. Patients often try shifting their posture in an attempt to find relief. But while this temporarily reduces discomfort, the resulting poor posture can trigger muscle spasms in the surrounding tissue, forcing the irritated facet joints more firmly together and making movement in the low back even more painful.

Treatment for Facet Joint Syndrome

People with lumbar facet syndrome respond particularly well to Chiropractic care in the Villages.
If you’re experiencing symptoms mentioned above and are looking for a chiropractor in The Villages, you can schedule a free consultation at Legacy Clinic of Chiropractic. While the mechanisms underlying facet syndrome are similar for everyone, there are factors unique to each patient, however, which determine what type of care will work best for you. If your condition is out of
our scope of care, or we believe someone else may be a better choice for you, we will research who the best medical professional would be and give you a referral.

The Villages Chiropractor – Legacy Clinic

Love the taste or hate it, apple cider vinegar has some pretty incredible health benefits. Made from fermented apples, research on this potent liquid has revealed promising results, including combating insulin and glucose spikes in type 2 diabetics, not to mention aiding weight loss. It can also soothe a sore throat and may relieve other symptoms of the flu, like nasal congestion and cough. Read on for some more reasons why you should add it to your health routine.
Like most things, the quality of the apple cider vinegar (ACV) matters. When purchasing ACV, select only raw organic vinegar—unlike other refined clear vinegars, this will be a murky brown color with sediment-like substance that settles to the bottom. It might not look pretty, but it’s the best and only option you should choose. You’ll also see labels that say “with the Mother,” sounds odd, but this means that it includes living nutrients and bacteria—this is the cobweb-like substance you’ll see floating in the vinegar.
ACV Uses and Benefits
There are various ways you can take ACV—take a small dose of around 1 to 2 teaspoons a day, dilute a spoonful in a glass of water, add it to an organic juice (preferably made in your juicer) or even mix it into your salad. Be cautious with continuous use of undiluted ACV; it is highly acidic and can be harsh on your tooth enamel. Here are a few of the possible benefits of ACV use—we encourage you to do more research to find other potential health benefits:
ACV is rich in potassium which aids the transmission of nerve impulses and helps to build muscles.
It’s high in acetic acid which can slow your body’s digestion of starch—this is what may lower the rise in glucose after a meal. A study done in 2004 and cited in Diabetes Care (an American Diabetes Foundation publication), demonstrated that participants with type 2 diabetes, prediabetes and even those without diabetes had better blood glucose readings when they took ACV before a meal. Those with type 2 saw a 25 percent improvement in their blood glucose levels.
Some research has also indicated ACV use may lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
ACV can balance your pH level due to its alkaline-forming properties. This has also been shown to regulate the presence of candida—which is a yeast-like fungus that aids digestion and nutrient absorption. When your body overproduces candida, it can cause many different health issues including fungal infections, digestive issues and chronic fatigue.
It may help relieve heartburn. It sounds counterintuitive, but some people get relief from taking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar followed by a glass of water.
Try gargling ACV when you have a sore throat; the antibacterial properties of the vinegar may neutralize the infection. It can also help drain your sinuses when you’re stuffed up.
While there is research that shows a strong correlation between ACV use and various health benefits, these tips are not meant to be used in place of the recommendations of your healthcare professional and remember: what works for some, might not work for others.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Maximized Living Chiropractor in the Villages Florida

We talked to Dr. John C Theeck D.C., Legacy Clinic-The Villages about how he incorporates a personalized program for each patient.
CORRECTIVE CHIROPRACTIC

Each patient that comes into my office has a specific structural condition that is affecting their spine and therefore causing symptoms of headaches, neck pain, and/or arthritis. Your first appointment at Legacy Clinic utilizes comprehensive analyzation in our state of the art facility. We focus on finding the cause to your problem and therefore permanently correcting your symptoms. An injury to the spinal structure causes a change in the muscles, muscle memory, and spinal column.
Traditional chiropractors focus on aligning the spinal column, but do not focus on strengthen the effected structure.
Physical Therapists focus on stretching and strengthen the damaged muscles associated with the compensation that occurred from the structural changed of the spinal column.
Dr. John C Theeck at Legacy Clinic utilizes the pettibon technique which focuses on changing the structure, neuromuscular exercises, and y-axial adjustments. “Each patient that comes into my office has a different spine”. I have never seen 2 of the exact same spines which mean each person gets specific PERSONALIZED exercises for their condition.
Do you want your adjustments to hold and to learn about the Pettibon Technique?
