Spinal decompression in The Villages Florida

Preventing Spinal Degeneration: The Role of Spinal Decompression

Our spines are meant to have a curve in the neck and a curve in the low back. These curves distribute our weight evenly and protect the discs in between the vertebrae. Over the course of time, our spines can begin to straighten. This puts all the weight directly on our discs and can lead to arthritis, stenosis, facet syndrome, hernias and pain.

So how do we prevent spinal degeneration or keep it from getting worse. Step one will always be to consult a chiropractor. Through an exam, they can determine the best route for you. One suggestion they may have is spinal decompression. This process is typically painless and generally feels good. As a patient, you can expect to have the decompression therapist explain the process to you before they start, but let’s give you a brief description here too.

For your lower back; you will lie down on a table and a belt will be tightened around your hips. This belt will be connected to a machine which will begin pulling backwards until it reaches a preset amount of pull. Once there, it will remain at that weight for a certain length of time (different practices and machines may vary the time) and then it will release. This process is repeated for about ten minutes. During this time, it will feel as though someone has grabbed your hips and pulled down. This gently stretches out the lower spine taking pressure off the discs and relieving symptoms.  Over time, through decompression, adjustments and proper care at home, you can regain the natural curvature lost and heal the discs.

For your neck; the process is the same, though you will be set up differently on the table. Often, a device closes in on each side of the neck and begins the stretch there.

Many patients just starting out have a preconceived notion that treatment will hurt. This whole process is designed to cause relief from pain and discomfort. Spinal decompression is a great tool when used along with manual adjustments. Many patients see amazing results, and many patients no longer have a need for their walkers or canes.

Custom orthotics in The Villages florida

Fallen arches can cause a lot more than just minor aches and pains.

The feet are the foundation of the body and no structure in this world can stand for long on a poor foundation. This holds true for us as much as it does for your house. Fallen arches and other degenerative conditons can lead to foot pain, but it can also work its way up the body causing pain all the way up to your head. When you are not properly balanced on your feet, you place extra weight on one foot over the other. This in turn causes more weight on one leg wich can cause a shift all the way up. All this extra weight over a period of time can cause pain in your knees, hips, back, neck and more.

With a set of orthotics that are made using a scan of YOUR feet, you can prevent this by giving your feet the right amount of support. Since no two feet are exactly alike, buying a generic store bought orthitc probably won’t work well for you. This is because they often only take one of your arches into account, and they seldom measure for the pressure put on each foot indiviadually. A Foot Levelers scan will take all of this and more into the design of your orthotic assuring you a proper fit that will help retain the arches you have and help get you relief from pain.

Christmas Salad Recipe

Instructions
How to roast Brussels Sprouts:
  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.  Lightly grease the foil-lined baking sheet with 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  2. Trim ends of Brussels sprouts  and remove yellow leaves.
  3. Then, slice all Brussels sprouts in half.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine halved Brussels sprouts, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, salt (to taste), and toss to combine.
  5. Place onto a foil-lined baking sheet, cut side down, and roast in the oven at 400 F for about 20-25 minutes. During the last 5-10 minutes of roasting, turn them over for even browning, the cut sides should be nicely and partially charred but not blackened (see my photos).

  2. In a medium bowl, combine cubed butternut squash (peeled and seeded),1 tablespoon of olive oil, maple syrup, and cinnamon, and toss to mix.
  3. Place butternut squash in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, turning once half-way through baking, until softened.
  4. Note: You can roast both Brussels sprouts and butternut squash on 2 separate baking sheets at the same time, on the same rack in the oven – that’s what I did.
How to toast pecans:
  1. Toast pecans in the preheated oven at 350 F
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Toast the pecans for about 5 minutes (maybe a bit longer) in the preheated oven at 350 F until they get darker in color.
  4. Note: pecans burn really fast, so make sure to check the nuts after 5 minutes and frequently afterwords.
Assembly:

Reasons To Consider Dry Needling

Reasons To Consider Dry Needling

Dry Needling also known as Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling, uses the same small needles used in acupuncture. These needles are inserted into the muscle to directly affect trigger points. Trigger points are tight knots of muscle that can refer pain throughout the body. A lot of patients have had this technique suggested to them either by friends who have had it done or by their physical therapists or MD’s. We put together a few reasons on why you should consider this option and what it can do for you.

Relaxing Tight Muscles

Dry needling can help to reset your knotted up muscle back to its resting length. Relaxing knotted up muscle tissue is very similar to getting a massage.

Improving Blood Flow

When your muscles are “tight” or “knotted”, they can decrease blood flow. Thereby, releasing the tension in your muscles will help to increase your blood flow leading to an overall healthier you also.

Decreasing Pain and Releasing Neurotransmitters

This technique releases differnet opiate peptides. These neurotransmitters prevent pain signals to the brain and spinal cord which decreases your pain.

Treating Chronic Pain

No one should have to live with chronic pain. Dry needling can treat acute or chronic pain. It can help with a range of different things such as: Plantar fasciitis, shoulder pain, back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica and more.

Weight Loss Success Testimonial

Weight Loss Success In The Villages, Florida

Legacy Clinic and Dr. Chris are proud to offer this incredible weight loss program that has helped so many people lose tons of weight safely, effectively and for good. We are happy to share some of the success stories that we’ve had.

Weight Loss The Villages

What makes this an effective weight loss program? This program allows patients to lose weight and keep it off without harmful chemicals that could cause other problems. It does not require a gym membership where you need to spend several hours a day nor do you need to invest in equipment for your home. It doesn’t require expensive meal plans and there are no public weigh-ins. While the plan itself is pretty straight forward, Dr. Chris makes himself available to answer any questions you may have.

This plan succeeds where others fail because it is not meant to last only while you’re on it. This plan is meant to train your body to keep using unwanted fat as fuel which helps to keep the weight off in the future. By lowering the intake of carbohydrates, your body will begin to use up the fat that it has “stored” for later use. In the meantime, almost all vegetables are unlimited and you can still eat lean proteins so you never have to feel like you’re starving.

You should never rely on just one article to make your choice though. We have many testimonials from patients who have had outstanding success on this plan. One of our own employees even tried and lost an amazing 90 pounds. There is no better time than now to start living a healthier life. Dr Chris also offers a free consultation to further answer any questions about the plan that you might have. Call or email us today to start shedding those unwated pounds!

Medicare Chiropractic Policy

                                         MEDICARE CHIROPRACTIC POLICY
• If you are injured, have an exam related to that injury and are under a treatment plan for that
specific injury, Medicare will cover a portion of your adjustment. After that treatment plan, it is
not covered.
• If you are being treated for chronic pain, Medicare will not cover it.
• If you are being treated on a periodic basis, i.e. twice a month, once a month, every 3 weeks…,
this is considered maintenance and Medicare will not cover it.
• Medicare never covers exams, x-rays, therapy or massage.
• Secondary does not cover anything Medicare doesn’t cover. They will cover the other portion of
the medically necessary adjustment.
• You are charged for services in our office at the Medicare specified rate (this is government
mandated)
• You will be told on every visit whether we believe Medicare will consider your services as
medically necessary.

Chiropractic Coverage
Medicare only provides coverage for the chiropractic adjustment of the spine. Your coverage
usually includes a number of visits based on medical necessity.

Exams, X-rays, Massage therapy, orthotics and physical therapy coverage:
Medicare never covers these. Instead, you are responsible for payment of these services at a
reduced Medicare rate.

What if I have secondary insurance?
This entirely depends on your secondary plan. Most secondary insurance will still only consider
the chiropractic adjustment. They simply reimburse the portion of the adjustment that Medicare
does not. All other services are still not covered. A select few (very few) secondary plans will
cover those services that Medicare does not even consider.
We do not file with your secondary insurance, Medicare does. We file with Medicare. After
Medicare completes the processing of your claims, they will send the explanation to your secondary
insurance for consideration. Some secondary insurances pay us directly as we are providers with
them. When this occurs, a credit will be applied to your account.

Maintenance Therapy:
“Maintenance therapy includes services that seek to prevent disease, promote health and prolong
and enhance the quality of life, or maintain or prevent deterioration of a chronic condition. When
further clinical improvement cannot reasonably be expected from continuous ongoing care, and the
chiropractic treatment becomes supportive rather than corrective in nature, the treatment is then
considered maintenance therapy. Under the Medicare program, Chiropractic maintenance therapy is
not considered to be medically reasonable or necessary, and is therefore not payable”

“Maintenance/Palliative Care is not a covered benefit for any of our covered managed care plans.”

Nervous system – Chiropractor in villages Florida

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

HAVE YOU HAD YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM

CHECKED LATELY?

Why are people flocking to Legacy Clinic 1 time per month?

Because the human body possesses a natural ability to heal itself, and this ability depends on a healthy nervous system.
Safe, specific spinal correction allows your body to heal faster and can even prevent disease. Your spine provides a basic
structure for the muscles and other parts of your body, performing several pivotal functions like support, protection and
flexibility. Nerves branching off the spinal cord also communicate with specific organs and regions of your body. For these
reasons alone, alignment of your spine is key. When your spine is healthy, your body functions as it was designed. However,
when misaligned or damaged, the life-giving power of your nervous system is interrupted, causing painful symptoms and
illness to pop up.

“What connects the mind to the body is the nervous system, which medical textbooks refer to as the master control system.
You will be amazed at how the spine and the nervous sytem are interrelated and connected to every aspect of our
expression of health and wellness.”
