3 Simple Things To Help You Lose Weight

Patients often ask….. “What are some simple things that I can do to start losing weight today?”

  1. Eat a variety of different foods. You should be continually changing up the types of protein, fruits, and vegetables that you eat on a daily basis. Eating the same thing every day (even if it’s healthy) will stunt your body’s ability to lose weight. I advise all of our patients to buy small amounts of different types of fruits, proteins, and vegetables in order to help boost their body’s metabolism.
  2. Drink more water. The average patient who comes into our office looking to lose weight is extremely dehydrated. Women should be 45-60% water and men should be 50-65% water. You need to make sure that is drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces of water every day. So if you are 200 pounds you need to make sure you drink at least 100 ounces of water every day.
  3. Start walking in the morning to help burn fat. Taking a 20-30 minute walk (not a run) first thing in the morning is an amazing way to put your body into a fat-burning zone. The reason we want you to walk and not run or jog is when you walk you stimulate your body’s heart rate to get up into what is called the fat-burning zone. Your body will stay in a fat-burning mode for many hours following your walk. When we want to lose weight what we really want to lose is fat and the best way to stimulate fat loss is to take a good walk in the morning at a pace where you can still have a casual conversation and are not huffing or puffing.
