Acupuncture For Improved Health

Acupuncture For Improved Health

Acupuncture for improved health does so much for us that most don’t even realize. Most people have come to know acupuncture for releasing stiff muscles. While it definitely does this, it is a recognized technique for many other pains and disorders.

Do you suffer from stress? If you’re like most people on this planet, you probably do on some days. Acupuncture is a great way to reduce stress levels in our bodies. By reducing these levels, we gain quite a bit. Stress can wreak havoc on our entire system. It can lead to anxiety, weight gain, and may even cause us to seek comfort in other bad habits like smoking. Imagine what it would be like to shed that stress from your system.

acupuncture in the villages

Acupuncture has been utilized for thousands of years. That means it has been used for longer than most traditional medicine practices. That’s a pretty good record. Still, many are hesitant to try it. Perhaps that’s because they simply don’t understand it. That’s why we want to inform you on what acupuncture is and some of the benefits you might see from it.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves inserting extremely small needles into certain areas of the body. These needles are much small than a sewing needle and most patients barely feel them, if at all. The needles are inserted into specific areas depending on what effect you are looking for.

What does it help with?

Acupuncture for improved health covers a lot of areas. One way that we mentioned already is to reduce stress hormones in the body. Other benefits include; pain relief, muscle relaxation, reduction of headaches or migraines, reduced eye strain, improved immune system and so much more. Decompression For The Spine in The Villages

Looking for decompression for the spine in The Villages?

Many people are unfamiliar with what exactly decompression for the spine in The Villages is. Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression uses a specialized table that gently pulls the two vertebrae on either side of the affected disc. This allows bulging material to be drawn from the nerve and back into the disc, allowing it to heal naturally over time. Advanced technology creates a gentle, pain-free treatment that avoids the muscle spasm or guarding reflex that is commonly triggered with traditional rudimentary traction or inversion devices.

Spinal decompression

Is decompression painful?

Most patients find spinal decompression to be very relaxing and it’s not uncommon to fall asleep during the procedure. The gentle pulling and releasing motion can be very soothing and having the pressure relieved from your nerves can put you into a very relaxed state. Although results can vary, many of our patients report a reduction in pain after the first few sessions. Typically, there is a significant improvement by the second or third week of treatment.

Is decompression effective?

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression is a breakthrough, FDA cleared procedure that takes the pressure off bulging, herniated, or degenerative discs, allowing them to rehydrate and heal. This often relieves pinching on the nerves and reduces pain. The best part is that decompression helps to heal the injured areas, rather than just managing (or masking) the pain.
The treatment is non-invasive, pain-free, and drug-free. There are no needles or anesthesia and it can be completed in just a few weeks. It is considered a viable and reliable alternative to surgery in many cases. Thousands of patients are treated every day using this procedure.

What is it good for?

Bulging or herniated discs may begin to pinch the delicate spinal nerves, causing sciatica, stenosis, or radiculopathy. This can result in debilitating back or neck pain, as well as numbness, or weakness. Many desperate patients turn to prescription pain pills, invasive spinal injections, and even back or neck surgery, trying to find relief.
“In many cases, those traditional treatments fail because they do not address the cause of the problem, and instead focus on covering up the pain,” states Dr. Theeck. “This can leave patients frustrated and without hope, as they face the possibility of endless medications, injections, and surgeries.”

Are you suffering? Are you considering surgery? Are you considering decompression of the spine? Contact Legacy today to get a free consultation and see what they can do!

Back pain in The Villages

Many people suffer from back pain of one degree to another.

10’s of BILLIONS of dollars are spent each year managing pain relief and back care, but until recently, little focus has been spent on chiropractic care. With a strong push to progressively keep ourselves healthy through diet and exercise, chiropractic adjustments have gained notice for their therapeutic benefits. Spinal manipulation has been shown to decrease pain and stress levels among many other things. It has also been shown to increase blood flow, improve joint mobility and boost your immune system naturally to name just a few of the myriad of benefits.

The question is; why do we keep spending hard earned money to siomply manage the pain? Why not treat the underlying cause and get RID of the pain? Because chiropractic care is still relatively new to the general public, some might see it as unproven. Others think it will require too much work on their part.

Chiropractic care is and has been a proven method for treating pain and has been around for much longer than people realize. Dr. Palmer gave the first chiropractic adjustment in 1895!

Treating your body well IS part of being well. Sometimes medicines are what we need, other times they simply mask what’s really going on. If you think treating your body right is too much trouble, think about this:

The doctors at Legacy Clinic want you to be your best self and live your best life, offering a variety of treatment options from chiropractic adjustments to weight loss to acupuncture and massage. Whatever your health needs, you can almost certainly find them at Legacy!

Spinal Decompression Treatment

June 2020
What Is Spinal DecompressionSpinal decompression is a treatment that relieves pressure on the discs in between your vertebrae. Over time, pressure on these discs can cause bulging and even herniations. This pressure can also cause damage to the spine itself as well as the spinal cord. This damage can lead to excruciating pain caused by pinching on the nerves. Spinal decompression works by stretching and releasing the vertebrae in you lumbar or cervical spine in a way that your body will not fight against. Over time, your discs can reform to their natural shape and size, protecting you as they were meant to.

Lumbar decompression

Spinal DecompressionA therapist will secure a belt around your hips which attaches to a machine. This machine will then pull the belt (and your lower spine) to a set amount of pressure. The machine will hold at that pressure for 45 seconds after which, it will release to half the pressure allowing your muscles to relax. The amount of pressure will be gradually increased to achieve the maximum results for each individual.

Cervical Decompression

Cervical decompression works in much the same way as lumbar decompression.                                                    A therapist will place pads Cervical Decompressionon either side of your neck. This will slowly pull your neck to a set amount of pressure and hold for 30 seconds then release to half the pressure for 15 seconds. The goal of either decompression is to allow the discs to heal and retain the natural curvature that supports your body.

What Is Acupuncture?

Have you heard of acupuncture but aren’t sure exactly what is involved? You’re not alone. There are a lot of misconceptions out there about acupuncture and we’d like to clear a few things up.

  • Acupuncture is painful – This seems to be based on a fear of needles. While that fear is real, the pain is not. The needles used are about the width of a strand of hair.
  • Acupuncture doesn’t work – Acupuncture was helping people long before western medicine. It does not involve harmful chemicals and has been proven to provide relief to many symptoms.
  • Acupuncture is expensive – Acupuncture is becoming recognized by more and more healthcare professionals and insurance companies are starting to see the benefits of including it in their plans.
  • Acupuncture is addictive – Although some patients will need a few sessions to gain the maximum benefits of acupuncture in The Villages, it is not addictive. Quite oppositely, acupuncture can often help curb other addictions like smoking or alcohol.

What Is Acupuncture

These are just a few of the many things that acupuncture can help with. If you feel like you might benefit from acupuncture, but you’re still asking yourself “What is acupuncture?”, please contact us today for more information or to schedule an appointment with the doctor. We are happy to be a part of your healthcare team and we look forward to your next visit.

Acupuncture For Headaches

Acupuncture For Headaches

Why Should You Try Acupuncture?

Many of us suffer from routine headaches or very painful acute headaches. If you’re someone who has been suffering in silence, it’s time to speak up! There are options to reduce the severity, occurrences and symptoms of your headaches.

ACUPUNCTURE CAN HELP MANAGE AND REDUCE HEADACHES

A 2016 review published by the American Headache Society found that acupuncture can be part of a treatment plan for people suffering from migraines, tension type headaches, and other types of chronic headaches.

Another 2016 Cochrane review showed that “adding acupuncture to routine care or treatment of acute headaches reduces the frequency of headaches in the short term (three months).”

Many people simply take OTC meds such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen to combat their headaches. These may be effective in the short term, but they can lead to much worse effects in long term usage. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is the leading cause of acute liver failure in the United States. Long term or heavy use of Ibuprofen and Naproxen can cause chronic kidney disease known as chronic interstitial nephritis. Your headaches are bad enough without having to worry about side effects from the pills you’re taking to alleviate them! The good news is that this doesn’t have to be the case. Don’t continue to “deal with” the painful aches, try acupuncture for yourself and get the relief you’ve been needing.

If you think you or someone you know might benefit from acupuncture, call or email us today to learn more or to schedule your visit. You can reach us at:

Acupuncture For Tight Muscles

Acupuncture for tight muscles

HOW DO YOU RELEASE MUSCLES AND TRIGGER POINTS WITH ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture for tight muscles releases trigger points by finding the most tender and tight band of muscle and using an acupuncture needle to poke the muscle and get it to involuntarily contract. Releasing a trigger point gets the muscle out of the shortened state and usually, after a few contractions, it softens and remains in a more elongated and relaxed state. As an acupuncturist, Dr. Perry can feel the resistance at the needle soften as trigger points and muscles are being released. Some patients describe the feeling as “popping a tension bubble” or “melting away tightness and tension.”

Acupuncture for tight muscles

Some trigger point conditions may resolve in one treatment while others may need five or more treatments for the muscle to reprogram itself. If it is a chronic condition and there are ongoing lifestyle factors that contribute to the issue it can take more time or reoccur if treatment is not frequent enough. There can be soreness in the muscle for up to 72 hours after trigger point release that feels like the muscle soreness after a workout.

It is recommended to apply warmth and engage in gentle movements in the days following trigger point release to help reduce soreness and promote blood circulation in the affected area. When a muscle is pain-free and unrestricted, it can move in its full range of motion will helps the body’s structural alignment.
